Another would-be winner, had we a contest for the largest eel, was sent in by Martin D. Welsh, Bakerton, W. Va., but sad to relate, the Fisherman’s Luck contests do not include a niche in which we could place the slippery, slimp creatures.
Mr. Welsh, whose “entry” was accompanied by a duly sworn affidavit giving the measurements of the eel, showed it to be a regular whopper. The eel measured 39 1/2 inches long, 10 1/2 inches girth and weighed 5 pounds. The eel was caught in the Potomac river.
