Fine Dinner Enjoyed By Guests; Many Officials Present.<\/p>\n<p>The Bakerton plant of the Standard Lime and Stone Company held its annual picnic at Duke&#8217;s Woods Saturday, activities getting under way at 4:30. Inclement weather marred an otherwise successful afternoon in that the attendance was well under former years.<\/p>\n<p>Officials present included: Daniel Baker, Jr., Baltimore, Md.; F. C. Thomas, D. R. Vorhees, Paul Specht, Paul Myers, all of Martinsburg; G. D. Garvin, Charles Town; W. J. Flanagan, Capon Roads, Va.; G. D. Hill, Millville; W. J. Young, Charles Town; Mr. Marsh, Havre de Grace, Md.; W. J. B. Houser, Superintendent Bakerton plant; D. R. Houser, retired, Supt. Bakerton plant.<\/p>\n<p>In the games and contests held prior to the supper, Billie Springs won going away in the sack race for children over 12. Other contests included: Three-legged race for children over 12, won by Sailor and Martin, Samples Manor, Md.; Cracker contest, won by Roy and Bobby Jones; Bicycle race for girls up to 16 years, won by Miss D. B. Barnes, Winchester, Va.; second, Miss Jean Claybaugh, third, Miss Jerlene Farling; Bicycle race for boys up to 16 years, won by Charles Moler, second, Bruce Claybaugh, third, Bert Loudoun.<\/p>\n<p>Following these games supper was served from 5:30 to 7, followed by community singing at 7:15.<\/p>\n<p>Later the older men and women engaged in a series of contests, namely: Tug of war between guests and mine men, won by mine team. Rolling-pin contest for ladies, won by Mrs. Helen Mills; tug of war between mine workers and top crew, won by mine men; Potatoe race for adults, won by Dorothy Knott and Willard Moler; best race for girls, won by Betty Jane Moore, Sharpsburg, Md.; Find the shoes, for children, won by Gordon Knott; Neck tie race for ladies, won by Mrs. Olin Knott, Sr.; Finishing contest for the ladies, won by Mrs. Edgar Mills.<\/p>\n<p>Music for the evening was furnished by the &#8220;Little German Band,&#8221; of Frederick, Md. Ladies of the Presbyterian Church served sandwiches, soft drinks, ice cream and cake at a refreshment booth.
