    Administratrix’s Notice. The undersigned Administratrix of the estate of John G. Flanagan, deceased, hereby notifies all persons indebted to said estate to make prompt payment.   • Flanagan Property Sale

    Mrs. Bertha Flanagan, widow of John G. Flanagan, of Bakerton, will have sale of personal property on September 20th, after which she will move to Shepherdstown to make her home.

  • John G. Flanagan Suddenly Passes Away

    Passing Away. We regret to announce the passing of another estimable Jefferson county citizen in the death of Mr. John Griggs Flanagan, who died very suddenly last Thursday afternoon at his home near Bakerton. Mr. Flanagan had been in poor health for the past year, suffering from some form of heart trouble, but attended to business as usual and was not thought to be seriously ill. Last Thursday afternoon he said that he felt badly, and while his wife was preparing some home remedies for his relief, he suddenly expired while sitting in an arm chair. His death was a great shock to his family and friends, who could scarcely believe that he had passed away. His death occurred about 4 o’clock. Mr. Flanagan, who was 50 years of age was a lifelong resident of this county, and lived upon his farm near Bakerton. He was the owner of limestone quarries, but in recent years had not operated them to any considerable extent. He was a genial, kind-hearted man and was highly regarded by a wide circle of friends. He was a member of Zion Episcopal Church. He is survived by his wife and one son, John G. Flanagan, Jr., also one brother, James Flanagan, and three sisters, Mrs. Laura Moler, Mrs. Mary Licklider, and Mrs. Alice Hopper. The funeral was held at his late home on Saturday, the service being conducted by Rev. John C. Siler, assisted by Rev. J. E. Triplett. The body was laid to rest in Elmwood Cemetery.

  • Flanagan and son visit relatives in Washington

    Mrs. John G. Flanagan and her son Griggs, of Bakerton, are visiting relatives in Washington this week.

  • Mills, Welsh’s of Bakerton School Receive Diploma

    Among those who took the recent county examination and took a diploma were Martha Welsh, Nellie Mills, Martin Welsh and Essie Welsh, of the Bakerton school, taught by Miss Rose Cockrell.

  • Reinhardt Arrested: Embezzlement

    William Reinhart, who sold maps, etc., in Shepherdstown, a few weeks ago, came to grief in Martinsburg last Thursday. He got on a spree, used money that did not belong to him and was arrested for embezzlement. The matter was compromised and he was then released.

  • Knott & Reinhart Marriage

    Miss Mary Virginia Reinhart, daughter of Mr. A. P. Reinhart, and Mr. Marvin Knott, both of Moler’s Cross Roads, were married in Washington on Monday. The ceremony was performed at the parsonage of Mt. Vernon M. E. Church South by the pastor. Rev. J. Howard Wells. The bride was dressed in a handsome gown of blue, with hat and gloves to match. The happy couple returned to Harper’s Ferry Tuesday evening, and from there drove to the home of the bride, where a supper was given them. They expect in the near future to occupy their new home in the vicinity of Uvilla. We wish them both great happiness.

  • Mr. and Mrs. John Welsh Host Daughter’s Wedding

    The home of Mr. and Mrs. John Welsh of Bakerton, was the scene of a very pretty wedding which took place on the evening of April 8th, when their daughter, Anna Mary, was united in marriage to Mr. David Hetzel, of that place. To the strains of the Lohengrin wedding march, rendered by Mrs. P. S. Millard the bridal party entered the parlor, and, under an arch of evergreens the happy pair were made one by Rev. R. K. Nevitt. Mr. Lawrence Welsh, brother of the bride, and Miss Anna Kidwiler came first; next came the groom and his best man Mr. Harvey Boyer, followed by the bride with Miss Bessie, her sister, as maid of honor. The bride looked very sweet in white silk, and carried bride roses. The bridesmaids carried carnations. After the ceremony refreshments were served The presents were numerous and useful, The young couple have a host of friends, who join in wishing them a long life and much happiness.

  • Kipp and Flanagan Visit Washington/Frederick

    Miss Annie Kipp, of Johnstown, Pa., has been visiting Miss Martha Flanagan at Bakerton. Miss Flanagan and Miss Kipp are now visiting in Washington and Frederick.

  • Flanagan Loses Valuable Mare

    James Flanagan lost a valuable mare last Friday night, the animal having hanged itself in its stall by a halter chain. This is the second horse that Mr. Flanagan has lost in the same stall in the same manner.
