Harpers Ferry, W. Va., Nov. 8 — The community exhibit which took place at the colored school house Thursday and Friday of last week was quite a success. Everything available was displayed, such as fruits, vegetables, grain, fancy work including crochet, embroidery, hand made garments and knitting. The county exhibit at Charlestown was held this week. Mrs. Charles Johnson (nee Olive Reid) is quite ill at the residence of Mrs. Esther Hill. She had been teaching at Innwood, W. Va., but owing to her ill health has resigned. Mr. W. T. Willis visited his family last week. He returned to his work at Howard University Monday. Mrs. Sarah Carter died last Friday in Pittsburgh. Her remains were brought here Sunday morning, accompanied by her husband, two sons, two sisters, and one brother. The funeral took place from John Wesley M. E. Church Sunday afternoon, Rev. A. L. Jenkins officiating. Mrs. Rosa Arter Hill, daughter of Rev. J. Arter and niece of Mr. Lewis Carter, attended the funeral. Miss Jaunita Arter spent last Friday in Martinsburg. Miss Florida Winters has opened her school at Bakeron. Miss Alice Wildy is quite sick at her sister’s residence, Mrs. Shirley Johnson. Miss Sadie Clinton and Edward Shelton were quietly married last Tuesday. Mr. Shelton has gone to camp.
