There was a riot among the laborers on the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal a short time since. They assembled together to the number of 1000, nearly all of whom were Irish. The paraded through Hampshire and Morgan counties, committing depredations on the persons and property of the citizens. The Governor of Virginia gave directions to those at Harper’s Ferry to deliver arms to the citizens for their defence. It was thought that the riot woud be soon quelled.
