Lightning struck the dwelling of Mr. John M. Welsh, at Bakerton, Sunday night, cut the top off the chimney at one end of the house and the cornice off the other, lifted the pump out of the cistern, run down into the parlor and burnt the lambrequin on the parlor mantel, and, to crown all, jumped from a stovepipe hole in the ceiling to a wooden partition ten feet away and cut a new stove pipe hole there almost as neatly as if done by a small saw. All this, strange to say, without burning the house down or injuring one of its inmates.
